Because of COVID-19, we are checking in with businesses to see how they are adapting to the challenging environment. Today, we check in with Carrie Sharpe, owner of Air Aerial Fitness in New Providence. With the shelter-in-place order, Air quickly pivoted to teaching classes via Zoom. While you don't have a hammock at home, classes are tailored to be an intense workout using items that you have around the house like a broom. They look forward to the day when they can get back to workouts in the air!
BuyLocalNJ is what happens when brothers Andy and Chris, native New Jerseyans and owners of financial advisory firm Runnymede Capital Management, wondered, “What if we create a website that promotes buying local by interviewing business owners for our community?”
Join us in finding, supporting, and celebrating local businesses that are helping to build our communities by sustaining vibrant town centers, connecting neighbors, and contributing to local causes. Thank you for buying local!
Because of COVID-19, we are checking in with businesses to see how they are adapting to the challenging environment. Our first guest is Aubrey Reichard-Eline of Unwind Yoga & Wellness in New Providence, NJ. Find out how her yoga studio is adapting during stay-at-home and how she's helping other local businesses.
This is the most crazy and stressful time to be a business owner, not to mention just being a human in general. We started the BuyLocalNJ project to support local businesses and this is a time that requires even more. Given the unprecedented economic hardship, the government passed the $2.2 trillion stimulus bill called Coronavirus, Air, Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES) which makes $350 billion available to small businesses in the form of "Paycheck Protection Program" loans. Business owners may be eligible for loans that are completely forgivable if used for payroll, rent, mortgage interest, and utilities over an 8 week period.
We venture to Watchung to speak with Chris Daunno, owner of CAD Construction. CAD is a home transformation specialist, providing turnkey general contracting service for residential customers in Somerset County and the surrounding areas. They provide high quality construction and on-time, on-budget project completion, all managed by Chris as the single contact who oversees every project from beginning to end. CAD can construct new homes and service tear downs/rebuilds. Furthermore, CAD can assist in additions and renovation projects.
This episode is in partnership with the Bernards Township Regional Chamber of Commerce.
We visit Owner Kris Silvestry at Peace of Mind Yoga in Berkeley Heights. It is the town's first and only stand alone yoga studio. At Peace of Mind Yoga, the instructors help its students learn how to cope and heal from their stress, anxiety, depression and trauma so that they can emerge as better parents, friends, community members, children, bosses and co-workers. In yoga classes, Peace of Mind Yoga provides a safe, peaceful and nonjudgmental space allowing for people to move and meditate to facilitate their own healing.
This week, we venture to Madison to meet Dr. Carmen Romano, owner of R3 Lab which specializes in athletic recovery and is the official recovery center of the NY Jets. Services they offer include infrared saunas, cryotherapy, and pneumatic compression. There's also a juice bar on site.
Dr. Romano saw more and more sports injuries in his career as a sports chiropractor and wanted to help athletes reset, repair and recover. Hear how hot and cold therapies can help you in your recovery process.
This week, we venture to Plainfield to meet chef Arman Saqe, owner of Jessica's Cafe. Arman has a vision to bring fine dining but in a casual setting. He and his sous chefs have many years experience as a team at one of NJ's best restaurants Lorena's in Maplewood. The menu is largely Italian - Neapolitan pizzas and pastas - though there are specials that are French inspired including a foie gras pizza. They also offer brunch on the weekend with classics like eggs benedict and french toast; and I assure you there will be a long wait in the coming months to get a table in the dining room.
This week, we venture to Somerville to speak with Daniel Lane of Lane & Lane, a family-run law firm providing family law and divorce counsel. The firm was founded by father-son team Steven and Daniel Lane in 2009, with Eric Lane coming in as a partner not long after. Their lawyers bring over 60 years of combined experience. Dan was selected to "Super Lawyers-Rising Stars"; "Top 10 40 Under 40"; and "Top 10 Family Law Attorney." In addition, he was awarded the "Equal Justice Medal" for his devotion to providing legal services for low-income families for divorce and domestic violence matters.
